Augusta E. Sellew

KILMARNOCK—Augusta Eubank Sellew passed away April 3, 2023, in Kilmarnock.

Growing up in Kilmarnock, she was the daughter of the late Warner A. and Hilda Blake Eubank. After graduating from Kilmarnock High School, she was enrolled in the Madison College (JMU) two-year business curriculum and graduated with an associate in business.

Returning to Kilmarnock, she was employed at the Lillian Lumber Company Office, and Northern Neck Mutual/Southern Mutual Insurance in Irvington. In 1958, she moved to Richmond and was employed as a claims secretary with State Farm Mutual Insurance Company.

While in Richmond she met and married her late husband, Warren Sanders Sellew, to whom she was married for 56 years. Other than living in Richmond, they lived in Winston–Salem, N.C. and Manassas. It was there that she retired as executive secretary to the superintendent of Manassas City Schools and clerk of the Manassas City School Board.

She returned to Kilmarnock with her husband and in 1993 founded the Kilmarnock Museum, Inc. where she served as president and then secretary of the board of directors, and chairman of the volunteer committee in which she participated. She rejoined Kilmarnock Baptist Church, in which she grew up, and served as a deacon. She was also a member of the Virginia Historical Society.

Mrs. Sellew is survived by her son, Mark S. Sellew and wife, Pamela; daughter Pamela S. Siemering; five granddaughters, Amanda and Melinda Sellew, Jenna Sellew Ligon, Elise and Nichole Siemering; and great-grandson Benjamin Ligon.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, Kilmarnock Baptist Church, 65 East Church Street, Kilmarnock.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to benefit Kilmarnock Museum, Inc., P.O. Box 2276, Kilmarnock, VA 22482; or Kilmarnock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 99, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
