K’Von Tavares Evans, 30, of Petersburg was charged in Lancaster General District Court with misdemeanor reckless driving as the result of a four-vehicle crash that occurred the morning of Friday, June 5, on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge and tied up traffic for about an hour.
According to Virginia State Police public information officer Sgt. Jessica Shehan, a 2022 Ram 2500, driven by Evans was improperly towing an oversized load—a swimming pool. Evans attempted to cross the bridge and the vehicle sideswiped three others, a 2023 Ford F-250, a 2020 Toyota RAV4 and a 2018 Ford F-150. No injuries were reported and damage to the vehicles was “superficial.” The crash remains under investigation.
Evans also was charged with two infractions—operating a vehicle without a flag or light and excessive vehicle width.
The pool basin was 16 feet wide and signs posted along the bridge route indicate there is a 10-foot vehicle width restriction on Norris Bridge.
