Charles B. Andrews Jr.

SAVANNAH, GA.—Charles Bruce Andrews Jr. of Savannah, Ga., passed away on May 9, 2021, at age 81.

Born and raised in Virginia, he was the son of Charles Bruce Andrews and Evelyn Childrey Andrews. He attended Chowan College and the University of Richmond.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Twiford Andrews; children, Catherine Andrews Chappell (Chris) and James Twiford Andrews (Susan); grandchildren, Matt Chappell (Colleen), Cory Chappell (Katie), Claire Chappell and Maddie Andrews; and great-grandson, Mason Chappell.

His sisters, Alice Andrews Jepson (Robert) of Savannah and Elizabeth Andrews of Reno, Nevada, as well as his nieces and nephews also survive Bruce.

Bruce loved boating, fishing and gardening. His children and grandchildren have very fond memories of spending time with him on the Chesapeake Bay.

After retiring from W. R. Grace & Co. and moving to Reedville, he became a volunteer EMT for the Northumberland County Volunteer Rescue Squad for 10 years and was president for four of those years.

In 2011, Bruce and Bonnie moved from Reedville to Savannah, where Bruce became a member of the Savannah Antique Automobile Club, driving “Buttercup” to special events. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff and hospice care of Spanish Oaks Retreat.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Richmond. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Northumberland County Volunteer Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 1, Reedville, VA 22539, in memory of Bruce Andrews.
