Citizens group initiates petitions to remove two school board members

KILMARNOCK—A group of parents and community members have initiated two separate petitions to remove District 3 member and chairman Audrey Thomasson and District 2 member Kenya Moody from the Lancaster school board.

Parent Mary Posey of White Stone in District 3 formed a group who call themselves The Citizens in Support of Lancaster County Public Schools. Members include parents, community members and non-profit board members, she said.

The petitions are a joint effort put forth by this group, said Posey. They were to begin circulating Wednesday, February 6, in Districts 2 and 3. The petitions require the signatures of 10% of the registered voters in each district. They will be filed with the Lancaster County Circuit Court.

The petitions seek removal of the elected officials based on Virginia Code Section 24.2-2.33 for “neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties when that neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties has a material adverse effect upon the conduct of office.”…….
