‘Kilmarnock’s Own Top Gun’ film to premiere on Wednesday


Kilmarnock’s Own Top Gun will premiere Wednesday, October 18, at The Compass Entertainment Center, 100 Entertainment Drive, Weems. Doors will open at 6 p.m.; the show will begin at 7 p.m.

Admission is free but tickets are limited. For tickets, call the Kilmarnock Museum, 396-0930.

The film is a 30-minute documentary that tells the story of Rear Admiral Henri Bertram “Bert” Chase III, a Kilmarnock native, reported Kilmarnock Museum president Carroll Lee Ashburn. The film and viewing are sponsored by Kilmarnock Museum.

Chase became famous locally when he flew an F-9 Grumman Cougar under the then newly constructed Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge at a little over 600 miles per hour. He was a lieutenant junior grade airman stationed at Naval Air Station, Oceana, at the time.
