One title down, two to go.

The Red Devils wrapped up an unbeaten regular season two weeks ago then captured the Northern Neck District tournament crown Thursday, February 16, with a 60-36 win over Westmoreland.

In the third meeting of the season for the Eagles and Devils, play was close for all of eight minutes when the two teams traded shots for a 12-12 tie at the end of one. Sparked by 10 points from Troy Henderson, the Devils went on a 19-5 run in the second quarter for a 31-17 lead at the half. The Eagles got a field goal each from Vaughn Harris and Zomari Sutton and a free throw from Kevin Ellis.

Harris turned in the only double digit performance for WHS with 11 points, including four of his team’s nine in the third.

Lancaster held a comfortable 44-26 lead after three quarters.

Tr. Henderson led seven LHS scorers with 22 points. Tyson Henderson contributed 14 and Daveon Smith nine.

The Devils advanced to the tournament final with a 56-point win over Northumberland in the semifinals and Westmoreland earned a championship spot with a one-point victory, 49-48, over Essex.

The Trojans got their revenge this week, beating the Eagles, 64-52, in a Region 1A quarterfinal game.

Lancaster defeated Northumberland 81-25 in another quarterfinal game and were scheduled to host Essex on Wednesday, February 22 . . . .
