Driver charged with hit and run after striking teen on a bicycle

BROWNS STORE—At 9:57 a.m. on Sunday, November 14, Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a crash on Browns Store Road approximately a half-mile west of Jessie duPont Memorial Highway.

A bicycle was traveling east in the westbound lane of Browns Store Road when it was struck by a westbound 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tahoe did not stop and left the scene, reported VSP public relations coordinator Shelby Crouch.

The cyclist, a 14-year-old male from Heathsville, was transported for treatment of serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, said Crouch.

The driver of the Tahoe, Johnshonika J. Gregory, 25, of Heathsville was apprehended shortly after the crash. Gregory was charged with felony hit and run, said Crouch. Gregory was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
