
OPHELIA—Edwin Roland Suttle, 91, of Ophelia died in the early morning of August 25, 2021, with his loving wife and friends by his side.
Edwin was born May 25, 1930, at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C., and was raised in Arlington. After graduating from Washington and Lee High School, Edwin served four years in the United States Navy aboard the destroyer USS Hank during the Korean War.
After his military days, he enjoyed a long running career with Potomac Electric Power Company serving 40 years and retired as a general foreman. During his time with P.E.P.CO, Edwin found the love of his life Mary Frances; they were married at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Arlington on January 16, 1965, on a snowy day. They were blessed to have enjoyed 56 years of marriage bliss.
Edwin had a great love for the mountains and the coastal plains with its abundance of hunting and fishing that he enjoyed doing with his son, grandson and all of his friends and family during his working life and through his retirement.
Edwin is preceded in death by his father, Robert Roland Suttle (1978); his grandson, Edwin Roland Suttle (1993); his mother, Bessie Rector Suttle nee Ross (1994); and his brother, Alan Ross Suttle (2013).
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Frances Suttle nee Klein; son, William Roland Suttle of Springfield; daughter, Kimberly Lynn Meek and her husband, Randall, of Stephens City; his grandchildren, Thomas of White Post, Ashley Evans and her husband, Jake, of McKinney, Texas, Nicole of Ophelia, Kristin of McKinney, and Rachel of Stephens City. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Grayson, Ashlynn, Kennedy and Isabella.
There will be a celebration of Edwin’s life held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, at the family’s home.
