Exceeding expectations, Lancaster girls tennis team climbs state ladder

Lancaster High School went from having three players in 2025—not enough to field a full team—to finishing as a Virginia High School League Class 1 state semifinalist in girls tennis this season. The Lady Devils suffered a tiebreak loss to Rappahannock in Warsaw on Monday, June 8.

The defending state champion Raiders edged the Devils, 5-4, after claiming the third doubles match in a tiebreaker.

“The match lived up to every expectation. We battled from start to finish,” said LHS coach George Christoforatos. “The deciding point came at number three doubles, where our team played a third-set tiebreaker, held multiple match points and ultimately lost 13-11. It was an incredible match and….
