COLONIAL BEACH—At 12:38 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a crash on James Monroe Highway and Stony Knoll Road.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2019 Dodge Charger was headed west on James Monroe Highway when it ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. The vehicle subsequently rolled over, according to VSP Richmond division public information officer Sgt. Dylan Davenport.
Calvin L. Harris Jr., 26, of Colonial Beach was the driver and sole occupant of the Dodge. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected. He succumbed to his injuries on scene.
Troopers are investigating the possibility that another vehicle, a blue sedan, may have been a factor in the crash, said Sgt. Davenport. Anyone with information is urged to call 609-5656 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov. Tipsters may remain anonymous. The investigation is ongoing.
