Faye L. B. Hannum

Faye L. B. Hannum

IRVINGTON—Faye Louise Beard Hannum passed away at 95 on December 9, 2020.

She was born March 11, 1925, to the late Roy Grant Beard and Betty Meadows Beard. She grew up and attended grade school in Bryson City, N.C.   After high school graduation, she attended Asheville Business College and was working at a local radio station in Asheville, where she met Ed Hannum. It was love at first sight.

After graduation, they were married and Ed’s job at General Electric took them to several different states before they settled in Merry Point, upon his retirement.   They enjoyed their boat and living on the Corrottoman River, where they had several friends, including Fred and Meryly Kelsey. They decided to leave their home in Merry Point since Ed’s health was declining. They moved to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RWC) and Ed passed on January 19, 2005.

Faye continued to enjoy the company of her friends from Merry Point who had also moved into RWC.

Ed and Faye were always very generous in giving back to the communities they lived in. Faye volunteered and made crafts to donate to charities. She was famous for her paintings and purses.

She was a very private person and loved her daily walks. Throughout her life, she had many Boxer Bulldogs, almost always in pairs. When her last Boxer, Luna passed a couple years ago, she decided she was too old to care for a dog any longer.

We will never forget her generous heart and that beautiful smile that sparkled in her eyes.

Her younger brother, Roy Wayne Beard and wife, Frances Jacks Beard, also preceded her in death.

Her survivors include three nieces, Sherry Jenkins, Patsy Thomas and Ann Marie Wright (Bryson City); and six cousins, Edwina Grant, Max Grant, Martha Grant Hamlin, Robert Grant, Catherine Grant Greene (Mills River, N.C.) and Trever Wright (Chattanooga, Tenn.).

We would like to thank Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury employees for the wonderful care she received.

In lieu of flowers, please send any contributions to your favorite charity.  The funeral arrangements are by Currie Funeral Home, Inc., in Kilmarnock.
