The Northern Neck Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (NNMOAA) will present its annual Memorial Day Commemoration May 27 at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. The ceremony will begin with patriotic music at 11 a.m. and will continue with a formal observance at 11:30 a.m.
According to program coordinator, retired U.S. Army Maj. Edgar Doleman, the keynote speaker will be former U.S. Ambassador and Virginia Governor James “Jim” S. Gilmore III who has an extensive public service background. He is a Vietnam era U.S. Army veteran, having volunteered as a counterintelligence agent in 1971, serving in West Germany under the Military Intelligence Corps. Gilmore became fluent in German and was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal for Service to NATO in 1974.
