Virginia State Parks offer summer concerts

Several Virginia State Parks will offer concerts this summer through the fall that will include bluegrass, jazz, gospel, country, rock and roll, symphony and contemporary music. Each location has a variety of music throughout the year so there is something that everyone can enjoy.

Locally, concerts are planned at Belle Isle State Park, Westmoreland State Park and Machicomoco State Park.

Music by the River at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster, will feature concerts from 6-8 p.m. on second and third Saturdays, June through August. The lineup will include Big City Band on June 8, Black Cat Murphy on June 15, Faron Hamblin on July 13, Rappahannock Crossing Bluegrass Band on July 20, Karen Jonas Band on August 10 and Southern Grace on August 17.

The series is made possible by the sponsorship of local businesses, community organizations, foundations and Friends of Belle Isle State Park.

“We’ve scheduled a variety of programs again this season,” said Friends of Belle Isle State Park music committee co-chairman Robert Mason Jr. “Get ready for some foot stomping and fancy dancing!”

Music on the Cliffs at Westmoreland State Park, 145 Cliff Road, Montross, will feature concerts from 6-8 p.m. on third Saturdays June through September. The lineup will include Tommy Filkoski on June 15, Hard To Tell on July 20, Sally & Brian on August 17 and Tyler Nichols on September 21.

The series is sponsored by Friends of Westmoreland. A raffle will be conducted throughout the series for a new kayak; the drawing will be held at the last concert of the series.

Music in the Park will debut May 18 at Machicomoco State Park, 3601 Timberneck Farm Road, Hayes. The concert, featuring The Tidewinders, will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of Machicomoco State Park.

Parking fees are required at all park locations upon entry. For concerts, festivals and music camps at Virginia State parks throughout the Commonwealth, visit www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/music.
