KILMARNOCK—The 2024 General Election season will end on Tuesday, November 5.
With the process stretching over six weeks, registered voters will have had multiple opportunties to cast their ballot.
Saturday, November 2, is the final day for early voting in person at voter registration offices. The Lancaster Voter Registration Office at 8311 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster, will be open for early voting from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today, October 31, Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2.
The Northumberland Voter Registration Office at 45 Back Street, Heathsville, will be open for early voting from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today, October 31, Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2.
Voters must be registered and valid identification is required.
On Election Day, November 5, polling places will be open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
Statewide choices
According to the Virginia Department of Elections, the Presidential/Vice Presidential ballot will include electors for Democratic candidates Kamala D. Harris for president and Tim Walz for vice president, Republican candidates Donald J. Trump for president and JD Vance for vice president, Green candidates Jill E. Stein for president and Rudolph T. Ware III for vice president, Libertarian candidates Chase R. Oliver for president and Mike ter Maat for vice president, independent candidates Claudia De la Cruz for president and Karina Garcia for vice president, as well as independent candidates Cornel R. West for president and Melina Abdullah for vice president.
The U.S. Senate ballot will include Democratic candidate Timothy M. Kaine and Republican candidate Hung Cao.
The First Congressional District ballot will include Democratic candidate Leslie C. Mehta and Republican candidate Robert J. Wittman.
The ballot will include a space for write-in candidates for the respective offices.
The ballot also will have a proposed Constitutional Amendment: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended so that the tax exemption that is currently available to the surviving spouses of soldiers killed in action is also available to the surviving spouses of soldiers who died in the line of duty?
Local choices
The field of candidates seeking election to Irvington Town Council expanded in recent weeks as Finley White announced her decision to seek office as a write-in candidate. The ballot will include the names of three candidates for the three seats, Frances E. “Fran” Westbrook, Mary Cary “Cay” Bradley and Frederick Fitzpatrick Johnson. The ballot includes spaces for three write-in candidates as well and White indicated this is the race she is interested in.
One candidate is seeking election to an unexpired term to end December 31, 2026, Bonita W. “Bonnie” Schaschek. The ballot will include space for one write-in candidate in the special election.
Two candidates are seeking election to mayor, Julie W. Harris and Samantha C. Van Saun. The ballot will include space for one write-in candidate for mayor.
In Kilmarnock, three candidates are seeking three seats on town council, Mae P. Umphlett, Michael “Mike” S. Bedell and Alice M. Cooper. The ballot will include spaces for three write-in candidates as well.
In White Stone, four candidates are seeking election to four seats on town council, Charles M. Brocklebank, Tad E. Pittman, Kathryn S. “Scotty” Roop and AnnGardner Eubank. The ballot will include spaces for four write-in candidates as well.
