WHITE STONE—James M. “Mel” Holmes Sr., 90, of White Stone passed away December 8, 2022. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956 and was a member of Kilmarnock Baptist Church, Kilmarnock.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty J. Holmes; son, Jim Holmes (Amy); granddaughters, Jennifer Rollings (Joseph) and Janie Kelly (Justin); three great-grandchildren, Reagan Rollings, Bennett Rollings and Hayden Kelly; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie O. Holmes and Fannie E. Holmes; daughter, Debra Diane Holmes; sisters, Peggy Harper and Betty Smith; and brother, Billy Holmes.
He retired from Butler Supply in 1996. They moved to the Northern Neck in 1998. He worked for Connemara Corporation until 2008.
He was a man of faith, loved his family and enjoyed fishing.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 10, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment followed the service at Woodlawn Cemetery. Family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
