Jean H. Davis

Jean H. Davis

PITTSBURGH, PA.—Jean Horton Davis, formerly of The Green, Weems, passed away on September 7, 2020, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at age 97. Her smile was infectious, and her enthusiasm boundless.

Beloved wife of the late Robert Elwyn Davis; mother of Benjamin (Mary Ann Hutchison) Davis, Thomas (Robin Wonnacott) Davis, and Susan (Paul Jr) Claus; grandmother of Ian Davis, Bruce (Jesse Sprague) Davis, Alison Davis Crowley, William Davis, Peter (Crystal) Chen-Claus, and Timothy Claus; sister of Aenid Horton Fisher, the late Audrey Horton Skillman, and the late Richard Horton.

Jean was an enthusiastic Girl Scout, a graduate of New Kensington High School Class of 1941, and Mount Holyoke College, Class of 1945. She was a medical social worker at Magee Hospital in Pittsburgh, and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. While at Magee, she met a young surgical intern who would become her husband for the next 69 years.

Jean pursued many interests throughout her life; horseback riding, skiing, sailing, puppetry, raising and showing purebred Corgis, geology and fossil hunting, genealogy, Bible study, and bookbinding; and took great joy in the friends she made through all these activities.

Jean was a long time member of the Piccadilly Herb Club. She was active in First Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, and Grace Church, Kilmarnock. Jean was on the board of Parents Anonymous, an organization devoted to eliminating child abuse, which later became Family Resources.

No visitation. Burial will be held at Historic Christ Church, Weems, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org) or Family Resources (www.familyresources.org).
