REEDVILLE—John Brandon Haynie, 50, of Reedville died January 14, 2024.
He was born June 28, 1973, to John Edward and Susan Deihl Haynie. He lived his entire life in Reedville, graduated from Northumberland High School, and was a proud lifetime member of the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department.
Along with his parents, Brandon is survived by his daughter, Katelyn Haynie, who was the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his sister, Ashley LaChance (Andrew) of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandmother, Constance R. Bray of Heathsville; uncle, Bill Haynie of Mechanicsville; aunt, Janet Deihl of Heathsville; and many cousins. He is also survived by the brotherhood of the fire department, who treated him like family.
Brandon was predeceased by his grandparents, Bartlett “Spider” and Dorothy Haynie; Ennion Deihl; and step-grandfather, Herbert Bray.
Brandon loved helping people. After working at Omega Protein for nine years as a boiler operator, he decided that Walmart would be a good way to do what he loved. Always a smile on his face, and ready to help, he quickly became a valued team member from the day they opened their doors. He made many friends and loved his job.
Brandon loved history, being in the fire department, working on model cars and nature. He enjoyed watching the turtles, lizards and all the wildlife that would come up in the yard of his home. He also loved his family’s four-legged companions Tuxx, Pluto and Riley. The fire department was like a second family for him. Next to being Katelyn’s dad, earning the “Fireman of the Year” award was one of his proudest moments. Brandon enjoyed the simple things in life and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 656, Burgess, VA 22432.
