LANCASTER—Julius Lee Ashburn, 76, of Lancaster died peacefully on February 29, 2024.
He was born to Welford Lee and Pauline Whay Ashburn on March 27, 1947. Being raised in the Northern Neck, he had a love for the water and learned how to make a living on it. He met and married Sarah Frances Dodson and together they raised three sons.
Julius was a lifetime waterman who passed on the family tradition to his sons and many of his grandchildren. There was always hot coffee and a seat at his table, where he spent countless hours swapping stories with family and friends. He always kept a smile on the kids faces with treats, toys, or just his one of a kind sense of humor.
Along with his parents and wife, Sarah, Julius was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Evans, and brothers James Ashburn Sr., Eugene Ashburn, and William Ashburn. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Lee Ashburn Jr.
Julius is survived by three sons, Charles Lee Ashburn Sr. (Dianna Armstrong), David Wayne Ashburn (Corrie) and Welford Christopher Ashburn (Tracey); nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Ashburn; and a lifelong family friend, James Folan.
