
The Northern Neck Nutshell racers held a regatta on Saturday, June 8, on the Great Wicomico River.
With mild temperatures and brilliant sunshine, a tricky breeze made conditions excellent for dinghy racing for the five competitors, reported Bill England. Varying from zero to 15 knots, often on the same leg of a race, the shifty wind made attentiveness paramount. But even that couldn’t always ensure success.
On the last leg of the last race, a broad reach, three boats, not 10 feet apart, took turns leading. How could the leeward boat overtake….
