The Kilmarnock Town Council unanimously approved, 5-0, a $4.8 million budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year following a public meeting Monday.

Council members Rebecca Nunn, Keith Butler, Betsy Crowther, Curtis Smith and Michael Sutherland voted in favor of the budget. Council member Emerson Gravatt was absent.

“The budget is balanced. It calls for no increase in taxes or utility fees at this time. It is a conservative budget,” said town manager Tom Saunders, recommending council adopt the proposed budget.

Tax rates in Kilmarnock will remain at $.10 per $100 of assessed value of real estate and $.16 per $100 of assessed value for personal property.

No member of the public chose to comment on the proposed budget, nor did any members of the council offer any discussion on the budget after its adoption…
