Lancaster scored 10 runs in its last two at bats to end the Region 1A softball quarterfinal early in a 15-2 mercy-rule win over Chincoteague on the Eastern Shore Thursday, May 29.
The Lady Devils are riding a 14-8 record and five-game winning streak into this week’s regional semifinal against Westmoreland, a 4-1 quarterfinal winner over Middlesex. That game was scheduled for June 3 with the region championship tonight, June 5, at the higher seed.
The winner of the LHS versus Westmoreland semifinal will face the winner of the Rappahannock versus Northumberland semifinal at the higher seed, making it an all-Northern Neck District championship and ensuring that two district teams advance to the Class 1 state tournament next week. Both the region’s champion and runner-up earn a spot in the state tournament.
Braelyn Johnson picked up her 10th win on the season with 5.2 innings pitched against the Ponies in the quarterfinal. She’s 10-1 on the season.
Johnson struck out three, walked three and gave up eight hits to the higher-ranked Chincoteague.
