Stonewall Jackson, the eventual Class 1 runner-up, eliminated Northumberland from the state girls soccer tournament in the quarterfinals last Tuesday.
The Raiders struck early, scoring on a corner kick two minutes into the state game and went on to beat the Lady Indians, 4-1. Stonewall Jackson lost in a shootout to Auburn in the state championship.
Kylene Franklin scored on a header on the corner kick then scored the eventual game winner 30 minutes later. The Raiders scored on a free kick to take a 3-0 lead at the half.
Stonewall Jackson had a handball in the box 14 minutes into the second half when Cameron Lewis drilled a penalty kick into the left corner of the goal for Northumberland’s only score.
