Lancaster High School will play its last varsity softball game of the regular season today at Colonial Beach. The Red Devils have next week off before Region 1A play starts on May 23.
The Devils are 5-11 after picking up a mercy-rule, 15-5, win over King & Queen on Monday, April 29, then losing back-to-back in Northern Neck District games against Westmoreland and Rappahannock. Westmoreland defeated the Devils, 19-0, on Tuesday, April 30, and Rappahannock beat Lancaster, 14-3, on Thursday, May 2.
Essex heads into the postseason as the top seed in the district and the second seed in the region with a 14-3 record. Westmoreland is ranked third in the region at 10-3 and Rappahannock sixth at 9-6. Lancaster is in eighth place. The top 8 teams make the tourney cut.
Against the King & Queen Tigers, Lancaster batted through the line-up to score eight runs in the fourth inning and take a 13-3 lead. The Devils scored on six hits and two walks, including a double by Lily Hathaway.
Braelyn Johnson was 3-for-4 with a triple and Skye Smith went 2-for-4 with a single and double with two runs each to lead….
