LANCASTER—Like many school divisions, Lancaster County Public Schools has struggled to recruit and retain bus drivers as more older drivers retire and fewer people are applying to replace them.
“We’ve got three fewer buses than when I started just two years ago and our goal has continued to be maintaining safe, reliable service with the limited bus routes we have,” transportation and school security director C.D. Hathaway told school board members on Monday, September 8.
This year, Hathaway rolled out a single bus route system as one of those ways to make the most of a limited number of drivers.
