Lancaster previews $47 million budget for fiscal year 2024-25

LANCASTER—The Lancaster board of supervisors held a budget work session Thursday, March 14, to begin hammering out a $47,014,403 budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

Department heads and non-governmental organizations will make their budget presentations at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, and Thursday, March 28, for supervisors to evaluate the requests, said county administrator Don Gill.

Revenues

He said the budget was prepared without the additional real property tax revenue from the recent reassessment or any other increases in tax rates. Anticipated revenues total $38,667,000, a 2% increase or $1,078,738 over the current budget. In addition to increased revenue from the state, $260,768, and federal governments, $269,809, the county is expecting to collect another $456,790 from sales and use taxes, the lodging tax and building/land use permits.

The beginning fund balance was expected to be $8,347,403, but given the county’s pattern of “underestimating revenues and overestimating expenditures to the tune of $1.5 million a year” it would likely be higher, Gill said.
