Lancaster schools are off to an enthusiastic start

LANCASTER—The first school board meeting of the school year on Monday, September 11, was full of enthusiasm as administrators and program heads presented highlights of the first three weeks along with plans to keep the momentum going.

High school principal Mike Myers said band was “off to a great start under the direction of Kenny Flester” with band participation up and “attendance and discipline much improved.” In addition to an “alumni drum line performing at half time during the homecoming game,” the band will play in the West Point Crab Carnival parade October 7 and the Spring Festival of Music in Myrtle Beach April 18-21.

Myers also shared about recent trips to Christopher Newport University (CNU) and Virginia Tech. On August 31, 62 students toured the CNU campus and five “recruitable” football players, three seniors and two juniors, had the opportunity to go behind the scenes with Virginia Tech’s football program and….
