LHS freshman Rory Lally is a state track champion

Freshman Rory Lally is the Virginia High School League state champion in the girls 800 meter run. The Lancaster High School runner ran a personal best time of 2:26.33 and crossed the finish line less than a second in front of top-ranked Chilhowie senior Tess Somervell.

Lally, who was also the Northern Neck District and Region 1A champion in the race, scored 14.75 of Lancaster’s 22 points. The Lady Devils were 11th in team scoring. Brunswick won the girls state championship at James Madison University June 1-2 with 84.2 points. Northampton was the runner-up with 57 points.

Westmoreland had the best finish among Northern Neck District teams with 38 points for fourth place. All of the Eagles’ scoring came from Janaya Moore, who came away with a triple crown as the state champion with three season best times in the 100 meter (12.44), in the 200 meter (25.72) and in the 400 meter (58.41). She also cleared 5’2” as the runner-up in the high jump.
