Lancaster claimed all the top honors at last Wednesday’s Northern Neck District cross country championship meet in Montross.

The Red Devils celebrated a dual victory as the girls and boys team champions and Domonique Veney and Hailey Smith were the individual medalists. Additionally, Veney and Smith were named the district’s most valuable runners.

Going into the meet, Lancaster’s boys team was the runaway favorite. The LHS girls were expected to run a tight race against favored host Washington & Lee.

“The girls winning was a nice surprise,” said LHS coach Joanne Webb-Fary. “Mears Pollard has, as the captain, really motivated these girls to want to be successful. They worked hard in the preseason and have organized weekend runs. They have a lot of drive and determination.”

Smith, a freshman, showed why she hasn’t lost a race this season…
