Lancaster fell short to Class 6 Oscar Smith High School for a second straight week in a boys track and field meet. However, the Red Devils are closing the gap.
In an April 27 meet in Newport News, Lancaster was 17 points shy of the Chesapeake-based school. On May 3, Oscar Smith won the 14-team Caroline Invitational with 125 points. Lancaster was the runner-up with 119 points. Host Caroline was third with 94 and Mountain View fourth, 53.5.
In the girls meet, Oscar Smith won with 184.5 points and Caroline was second with 88.5. Brooke Point was third with 70 points and North Stafford fourth, 60.5. The Lancaster girls team scored 20 points for 10th place.
Boys results
Lancaster won five events in the boys meet with Reece Rhodes continuing to dominate in throwing events. Rhodes won both the discus, 158’1.5”, and shot put, 59’3”. Tyler Rhodes was the runner-up in the discus, 128’9”. Teammate Lawrence Veney was third in the shot put, 45’1”.
