OTTOMAN—Marion Ray Reynolds, 65, passed peacefully at his home, “Reynolds Landing” in Ottoman, on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
Ray was the son of the late William Marion Reynolds and Jean Edwards Reynolds. Ray grew up on Carters Creek and worked many years alongside his Dad and Howdy “Hardrock” Barrack at Barrack & Reynolds Seafood in Irvington. At the young age of 12, Ray was crabbing and fishing on his first boat “The Rebel Yell” and was proud to be a waterman. In later years Ray worked as an operations manager for Chris Mart stores until his retirement due to declining health.
Ray, who never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a smile, often said the water of the Rappahannock River ran through his veins.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Byrd Reynolds; his children, daughters, Rachael Ann Reynolds, Jeanne Reynolds Holycross (Chris), Kasey Byrd Haynie (Russell), Kari Byrd Huett (Richard), and son, Bryan Corbit Byrd (Nichole). Ray was “PawPaw” to 15 grandchildren, who he adored, Jackson, Caleb, Joely, Cooper, Gaage, Devin, Alana, Layton, Harper, Adam, Tate, Shelby, Sarah, Emma and Jamie.
Ray is also survived by his sisters, Lynda Reynolds Sebra (JB) and Joyce Reynolds Mantiply (Mark); his cousin/brother Ronald Reynolds (Julie); as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
Per Ray’s request a celebration of life event will be held in April. An announcement will be made of the location, date and time.
