Mathews High wins cross country meet

Host Mathews won both the girls and boys races at a cross country invitational at Beaverdam Park in Gloucester on August 30.

The Mathews girls team scored a low 16 points to beat runner-up Lancaster by 31 points and the MHS boys team scored 29 points to win a four-team race.

In the girls meet, Middlesex, Essex and Westmoreland did not score in team scoring because they had fewer than five runners each. Essex did not score in team scoring in the boys race.

Lancaster was the runner-up in the boys race with 46 points, Middlesex third with 68, and Westmoreland fourth with 96.

Lancaster’s Matthew Kane was the individual medalist in the boys race, finishing in 17:43….
