Sussex Central held Lancaster High to a pair of second-quarter touchdowns last Thursday to beat the Red Devils, 38-16, and even LHS’s varsity football record at 1-1.
Lancaster spotted the visiting Tigers of the TriRivers District two scores for a 16-0 lead early in the second quarter before Lamar Mattocks converted a third-and-10 situation with a 19-yard scoring run. Daveon Smith got across the goal line for the two-point conversion to cut Sussex’s lead to 16-8 four minutes into the second quarter.
However, a penalty on the ensuing onside kick gave the Tigers great field position at the LHS 41 and three first-down runs later set up a 10-yard Tiger TD carry….
