Mountain music coming to Belle Isle

The Music by the River concert series at Belle Isle State Park will host Wayne Henderson and Helen White at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 21.

The concert, partially funded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts, will begin at 6 p.m. in the picnic area at the park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster.

Henderson is a National Heritage Award recipient honored for his craftsmanship as a luthier and his finger-style Appalachian guitar playing. A singer, fiddler, guitarist and composer, White has toured extensively with Henderson. From Grayson County, they are expected to bring Appalachian fiddle tunes, Carter Family melodies and a few swing and rockabilly standards to the stage.

Both Henderson and White are major contributors to the development and preservation of traditional Appalachian music.
