NHS wins district golf tournament

Northumberland golfer Tre Booth and Lancaster golfer Tyler Brent on Monday went shot-for-shot at the Northern Neck District golf tournament at Hobbs Hole Golf Course in Tappahannock. Booth beat Brent by two strokes to shoot a 5-under par 66 as the individual medalist.

Booth led Northumberland to a team low 302 for the tournament championship.

Brent shot a 68 as the runner-up.

“Those two boys battled it out all day,” said LHS coach Rob Pittman. “I’ve never seen scores in the 60s since I started coaching.”

Amanti Starks shot a 74 and Landon Shirilla and Cooper Haynie had an 81 each to complete the scoring for Northumberland. Willie Bowles and Caden Jones also played for the Indians.

Rappahannock was the team runner-up with a 335 led by Gus Sanford, 79.

Lancaster was third with a 347 and Essex fourth, 393….
