FREDERICKSBURG—The final week of a scheduled bridge inspection on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge will be underway Thursday, January 3 to Monday, January 7.
Travelers can expect lane closures on Route 3 on the Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
This inspection of the entire bridge is completed once every two years, reported Virginia Department of Transportation public affairs manager Kelly Hannon. All fracture-critical elements on the bridge are inspected annually.
The bridge inspection began in October 2018, but the final week of work was postponed to allow a separate bridge pin cleaning and replacement project to proceed, said Hannon. The pin cleaning and replacement project is complete.
