Northern Neck legislators send bills to Gov. Northam as session adjourns

The Virginia General Assembly officially adjourned it’s 2019 session Saturday, February 23. The legislators are scheduled to reconvene April 3 to consider Gov. Ralph Northam’s proposed amendments or vetoes.

Over the course of the session, several bills proposed by legislators representing the lower Northern Neck passed both the House and Senate and now await approval from Gov. Northam.

Del. Margaret Ransone of Westmoreland introduced House Bill 1620, which establishes the position of commissioner of elections to head the state’s department of elections, increases the membership on the state board of elections from three to five members and increases the length of their terms on the board from four to five years.

Del. Ransone also introduced House Bill 1640, which requires health insurers to provide equal coverage for services when they are legally performed by a nurse practitioner.
