HEATHSVILLE—It took an additional—at times tense—special called meeting, but the Northumberland board of supervisors on Wednesday, March 16, approved a new election district map as recommended by staff and a citizen committee.
The board voted 4-1 in favor, with Thomas Tomlin objecting to the changes that removed an area “that has been a core part of District 4 all the way back since I have been voting.” Ronnie Jett, Richard Haynie, James Brann and Jim Long voted in favor of the motion.
Before the discussion, Jett commented on a letter that was circulating through the community regarding statements allegedly made by him at the March 10 board meeting. “90% of the information in it was incorrect and false, if not downright lies,” he said.
