HEATHSVILLE—Following a related hearing that garnered no public comment, the Northumberland planning commission recommended a capital improvement plan for fiscal years 2025-2029 to the board of supervisors, 6-1.
The grand total for all five years is $6,343,599 with $2,790,363 in 2025; $1,422,236 in 2026; $833,932 in 2027; $843,153 in 2028; and $453,915 in 2029.
County planner Stuart McKenzie stressed during his presentation that “the board has all the discretion whether to fund a project and just because it’s in the capital improvement plan does not mean it’s going to be funded.”
Discussion focused on the upcoming 2025 fiscal year, with much of the $2.8 million grant funded or self funded. A $100,000 request for an emergency response vehicle is expected to be funded through insurance billing fees. The sheriff’s office requested $247,720 for annual vehicle replacement and body cameras, although there is a potential of receiving a $75,000 grant to partially pay for the cameras.
