Northumberland supervisors approve $19.7 million school budget by category

HEATHSVILLE—During a special budget work session on Tuesday, June 1, the Northumberland board of supervisors continued fine-tuning a fiscal 2021-22 budget, proposing some reductions in spending while agreeing to fund an additional $1 million request by the school division to cover an adjusted teacher salary scale, 3% pay raises for staff and health insurance increases.

The board approved the $19,731,225 school budget in a 3-2 vote. James Brann of District 1, Richard Haynie of District 2 and Ronald Jett of District 5 voted in favor. James Long of District 3 and Thomas Tomlin of District 4 objected because the motion would categorize….
