‘Parklets’ installed in Steptoe’s District

KILMARNOCK—This week, the Town of Kilmarnock is installing three public gathering spaces, known as “parklets,” on portions of the sidewalk within Steptoe’s District.

“It is very important as we come out of COVID-19, we realize the importance of providing quality outdoor space,” stated Mayor Mae Umphlett.

This pilot project—done in cooperation with downtown consultancy ReThink Main Street—is designed to provide eye-catching spaces that increase foot traffic and provide amenities that encourage customers to linger. These small public spaces….
