One involuntary manslaughter case dismissed, another pending

HEATHSVILLE—Charges have been dismissed against a woman accused of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the overdose death of Robert Steven Auman.

Over two years after Auman’s body was discovered by law enforcement authorities, Joan Parks King of Weems entered a plea of not guilty before Northumberland Circuit Court judge Michael McKenney on April 10.

Northumberland County Sheriff’s Department officers were dispatched to Auman’s residence in Reedville at 11:10 p.m. April 4, 2017, in response to a report of a possible dead body. Auman, 51, suffered from chronic pain for which he was prescribed oxycodone, in addition to being a chronic recreational drug user.
