Pay raises, Bay Transit funds assured in Lancaster budget

by Madison White Franks

On June 14, Lancaster supervisors adopted a $33.4 million 2018-19 general fund budget.

District 2 supervisor Ernest Palin moved to adopt the budget and it passed, 5-0, with support from District 1 supervisor Jack Larson, District 3 supervisor Jason Bellows, District 4 supervisor and chairman Bill Lee, District 5 supervisor Robert Westbrook, and Palin.

Chairman Lee also moved to appropriate the funds and that motion passed, 5-0.

The budget includes a 4% pay increase for teachers and a 2% increase for county employees except for the paid emergency services staff who were given a raise in October.

Prior to adopting the budget, supervisors made some additional changes.

“In our effort to balance this budget, we have made some cuts. One of those cuts was to Bay Transit and it is having unintentional consequences…they are losing dollars three ways, from the local, the state, and from federal.

“I would like to request that the $9,949 be put back into the budget,” said Lee…
