KILMARNOCK—With heavy hearts the family of Rebecca Crofoot Lynch, 65, of Kilmarnock announces her passing away suddenly but peacefully on July 21, 2023, after a wonderful day of cooking, dining and outdoor fun with her husband, daughter and granddaughter.
An organ donor, Rebecca was celebrated by an Honor Walk down the halls of Riverside Hospital in Newport News before her liver and kidneys were successfully transplanted in three awaiting patients.
Rebecca is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Carl; her children, Sabrina (and granddaughter Khaleesi), Teresa, Kenny and Joe; and her adored rescued dog, Duke.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she and Carl moved to Kilmarnock only five years ago from Chesterfield, where they co-owned a real estate company after her career in the mortgage banking industry.
Both of them quickly grew to love the abundance of nature here and made many new friends.
She was born in Westchester County, N.Y., into a family proud of their ancestry. Her mother was a Beekman and born in Beekman Town which later changed its name to Sleepy Hollow. It was also the home of John D. Rockefeller.
Rebecca worked hard all her life. She was equally happy working alongside Carl growing vegetables and repairing old cars, as well as hosting dinner parties, surprising her friends with food gifts and giving treats to every dog she met. She loved to dance and sing, camp and boat, and point out anything shaped like a heart. Among her proudest achievements was helping a daughter born with physical disabilities learn to walk and function independently.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends on Prentice Creek.
A visitation in her honor will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 5, at Currie Funeral Home, LLC, in Kilmarnock.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Research Foundation, Disabled American Vets, Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck, or to a charity of choice.
