Red Devils advance to regional tournament, JV ends season 8-6

Lancaster went 2-1 last week to cap a 10-7 campaign and secure a home berth in the Region 1A varsity boys basketball tournament with a fourth-place finish.

The Red Devils defeated both Essex and Rappahannock early in the week before losing to Class 2 Westmoreland by a narrow margin to end the three-game week.

Lancaster was scheduled to host fifth-ranked Chincoteague in the regional quarterfinals earlier this week. Northumberland placed first in the region to host eighth-place Colonial Beach, while second-place Northampton faced seventh-place Middlesex and third-place Rappahannock took on sixth-place West Point.

The Raiders advanced to the semifinals with a 70-60 win over the Pointers. The winners of the other weather-delayed games also moved to the semifinals, February 27, at the higher seeds. The championship will be February 28, at the higher seed.

Lancaster took the lead for good in the second quarter and went on to beat Essex by 14 on Monday, February 16. Jamarcus Russell led all scorers with 17…..
