Registration opens for Summer Slam camps

by Lisa Hinton-Valdrighi

The Summer Slam youth baseball and softball camp will return to Dream Fields in Kilmarnock July 24 through 28.

Camp instructors for this, the fifth year of the camp, are Virginia Commonwealth University’s assistant baseball coach ML Morgan and Christopher Newport University Hall of Fame softball player Nicole O’Bier.

Some 80 players ages 7 through 12 participated in last year’s camp, according to director Damien Crissey.

Summer Slam campers may participate all day, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $150 for the week, or take part in a half-day camp from 8:30 a.m. to noon for $100 for the week.

The morning session at Dream Fields will include baseball instruction by Morgan and members of the VCU baseball team. Softball campers will be taught by O’Bier and her helpers from the Lancaster High School varsity softball team.
