Senior shortstop Candace Slaw, who helped lead Rappahannock to multiple titles this season, was named the softball player of the year for Region 1A.
Rappahannock’s Ellen Gaines was chosen as the coach of the year.
Rappahannock, which won the Northern Neck District and Region 1A tournament championships and went on to finish as a Class 1 quarterfinalist after losing 7-4 to Buffalo Gap, captured six spots on the regional first team with Slaw at shortstop, junior Claire Dameron at pitcher, junior Reagan Dameron at catcher, senior Kahler Goodman at second base and seniors Norah Brann and Madison Syster as outfielders.
Region runner-up Chincoteague placed three on the first team in senior at-large player Alexandra Bell, junior pitcher Alexandrea McComb and junior first baseman Lillie Matthews.
Lancaster had one selection to the region’s second team in sophomore designated player Braelyn Johnson.
Others named to the first team were Middlesex sophomore at-large player Libby Oliver; Mathews sophomore designated player Ashton Hudgins and senior third baseman Alyson Jackson; and Essex High junior outfielder Bailey Fones and junior pitcher Kylie Jones.
The second team also included Middlesex sophomore catcher Kayleigh More, junior outfielder Candace Brown and freshman pitcher Courtney Jessie; Mathews junior pitcher Morgan Crittenden, senior outfielder Reece Brock and freshman shortstop Avery Thomas; Essex freshman first baseman Morgan Self and senior third baseman Jasmine Student; Westmoreland freshman pitcher Emma Burgess; Chincoteague junior at-large player Sarah Godwin; Colonial Beach senior at-large player Cora Bowler; and West Point senior outfielder Madison Graves.
