Richard W. Covington of Mila recently announced the first printing of Northern Neck Fishing Steamers Go to War: Turning Fishboats into Warships.
“I recently authored and published this account of the role of local fishing steamers that were placed into naval service, both domestically and in France, during World War I,” said Covington.
The subject is of particular interest to the lower Northern Neck community. The menhaden industry has been the economic heart and soul of the community for over 100 years and everyone is fascinated by the old wooden boats of a bygone era, he said.
