Sailing through the pandemic with the Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club

The Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club participated in the June 2012 Tall Ships OpSail in Hampton Roads. Club yachts met the Tall Ships as they entered Hampton Roads on their way to docking in Norfolk or Portsmouth. The event is remembered among the highlights of club history.

Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club (YPRCC) recently began its 2021 season with the election of officers and the setting of an aggressive agenda of training, seminars, racing, and social activities.

The club also celebrates its evolving kayak program which will offer training and river jaunts, reported publicity chairman John Henley.

YPRCC has been sailing through the last nine months with a reef in both the main and genoa.

“Our sails have remained properly trimmed and our course steady, crews have been well fed and the watches have all been manned with a close eye on the weather ahead,” said Henley.

YPRCC has been affected just as others throughout the sailing world by the COVID-19 storm; however, the club has kept a stiff upper lip and a schedule, although reduced, has been maintained, he said.
