REEDVILLE—According to Northumberland County administrator Luttrell Tadlock, the county’s sanitary district recently discovered a rupture in the force main wastewater line running under Cockrell Creek.
County staff have contracted out for repairs which will be completed as soon as possible. Meanwhile, wastewater is being removed at the pump stations by vac trucks to prevent further release of wastewater into the creek.
Tadlock said all regulatory agencies have been contacted and the county will continue working with them.
As a result of the rupture, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) closed Cockrell Creek to shellfish harvesting.
