Lancaster’s Hailey Smith finished among the top six in her distance races to lead Lancaster at the Group 1A/2A state indoor track meet last weekend in Salem.

Smith, who qualified for the state meet in five running events, competed in only two because of meet scheduling and her ranking.

Several of Smith’s races were back-to-back, according to LHS coach Draper Washington. So she competed in the events she was ranked higher in, he said.

Smith finished third in the 1000 meter in 3:12.63 and sixth in the 3200 meter in 13:22.74.

She had also qualified to compete in the 300, 500 and 1600. Smith holds Lancaster’s indoor track school records in the 300 (45.51), 500 (1:24.93), 1000 (3:11.26), 1600 (5:37.72) and the 3200 (12:16.83). She broke all of those records this season.
